THE GOOD:
* I’m sleeping better, waking up with more energy, and thinking more clearly than before.
* Even though eating healthy can be expensive, the money I saved not buying booze, junk food, or eating out could pay for a plane ticket to Jamaica.
* Despite a shorter list of allowable ingredients, I have a ton of new healthy and good tasting recipes
* Performance: Helen on January 30TH: 10:13 Rx. Helen today: 8:58 Rx. I was NOT expecting that.
THE BAD:
* When I did eat out, my orders had more substitutions than a Yuppee ordering a Latte at Starbucks
* Friend: “Hey Colin, want a beer?”.
Colin’s Head: “Yes!”
Colin’s Mouth: “No, thanks” (cue sad trumpet music)
THE UGLY:
* Being small to begin with, I got a few weird looks telling people I’m on “the Paleo Diet.” I thought of different ways to put it, but saying “Paleo Lifestyle” sounds too much like a smug hipster, and going with “Paleo Challenge” I’d likely be asked if that’s the new game show on NBC. The only fix was to take about 5 minutes explaing the concept, which now that I think about it isn’t all that bad. I just like things to be simple and concise .
Overall, I think I’ll stick with a mostly paleo diet, with a few liberties on the weekend and when eating out. I can figure out healthy choices glacing at the menu, and hey, if you can’t enjoy all the foods the world has to offer, then I think there’s a point being missed . It’s all about balance.
Enjoy the weekend, Crossfitters
tl;dr: Paleo worked for me, and I’ll stick with it for the most part.
