Lauren Riley-Gledhill

Name: Lauren Riley-Gledhill

 Age: 29

 Hometown: Essex, United Kingdom

How long have you been CrossFitting? ~6 months

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise? Any workout that contains lunges.

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise? Overhead squats! I am still getting to grips with the correct posture so am unable to add any significant weight!

What is your previous workout/athletic background? I used to play every sport available to me at school such as football, rugby, gymnastics and athletics; having the opportunity to compete at both county and national level. I also trained for seven years in classical ballet, contemporary modern and tap dance.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like? Exciting but bewildering! I completely underestimated how tough the workout was and how important technique was to maximizing workout potential.

What results have you seen since CrossFitting? I have been able to reinstall focus, tracking PBs and moving towards RX. The knowledge I have also obtained from a nutritional aspect has been equally important to enhancing my overall wellbeing and fitness. The coaches have really helped with providing advice and feedback on how to progress; I would strongly recommend attending any of the clinics they host, I have been able to exponentially improve my form as a consequence.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? I find that checking the time (and calculating time per round) motivates me to speed up, especially when there is a time cap. Good music also helps provide some additional motivation.

What's your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? My favourite part of working out at CrossFit Cayman is the ability to completely switch off from stressing about work. There is also a sense of community spirit when the workouts are particularly hard, we are all in it together! I found that the workouts are strategically planned in such a way that it ensures all muscles are used throughout the week which is great for balance.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman? It has certainly changed my life, so I would recommend Crossfit Cayman to anyone, especially those who are competitively spirited or who are looking for a new and exciting challenge outside the norms of a standard gym.
