Jon Baron

March “Athlete of the Month”

Name: Jon Baron

Age: 31

Hometown:  Rossland, B.C, Canada

How long have you been CrossFitting? I started in 2016, so about 6.5 years.

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise?  It's a tie between Grace and the filthy fifty.. very different but both horribly soul crushing.

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise? Anything to do with snatches or overhead squats.

What is your previous workout/athletic background?  Coming from a small mountain town, I was big into biking and skiing, then got into rugby and leveled up to play div 1 in Canada before retiring at the ripe age of 27 after one to many concussions.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like? Super welcoming! I accidentally signed up for the "intro workshop" with Matt and he pretty much immediately kicked me out to join the class.  It's been awesome to build some camaraderie and friendly competition with the group, and since no one takes themselves too seriously, it's always one of the best parts of my day.

What results have you seen since CrossFitting?  Crossfitting put me in the best shape of my life (pre-covid)  and after a couple of slack years of putting on my winter weight, and a year at cayman crossfit, I can feel myself on track to get back to that level.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)? I lose count of my reps and by the time I figure out how much more I have to go, I'm done.

What's your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? The consistency of everyone in the classes and the energy that comes with knowing the group well enough, people know when to give you a little extra encouragement.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman?  If you want to see results, it will be tough, but it is worth every minute.
