How long have you been CrossFitting?
1.5 years
What is your favorite WOD/Exercise?
Barbell cleans, squats. Any barbell movement that I can continue to improve my technique. It’s super rewarding to see progress with these movements.
What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise?
Pushups and thrusters. Hard to pick between those two but for different reasons. I find pushups never get easier even though I see myself getting stronger and completing more of them each workout. Thrusters are difficult because they always fatigue me so quickly during a workout.
What is your previous workout/athletic background?
I was involved in many different sports throughout my youth. I was competitive with soccer and equestrian sports (hunter/jumper horseback riding) in my high school years. After that I got serious about distance running while dabbling in all kinds of other workouts from rowing/HIIT to boxing.
What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like?
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the CrossFit community to be honest, but from the foundation sessions to my first group class, I was hooked. The people I’ve met here are incredible. The coaches do a great job of keeping you accountable while ensuring good form and progressive overload. I’ve felt nothing but encouragement from every member and coach. It’s pretty special to have a community that is competitive, pushing everyone to be better every day, while also being genuinely supportive.
What results have you seen since joining CrossFit Cayman?
I’ve seen large improvements in physical strength (I can now do pushups and strict pull ups – yay!), mental toughness/resilience, and calluses in places on my hands I didn’t know existed. I’ve also maintained a more consistent routine with my supplements, protein intake, etc which I wasn’t as purposeful about prior to CrossFit. So I've noticed my energy is more steady throughout the day.
What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)?
I find during most workouts my mind is quiet, and I go to a place where I’m just focused on how my body is moving/feeling. If it’s a really tough one or I’m struggling that day to go to a place of focus, I will break down the time or movements into more manageable chunks in my mind and focus on completing each one instead of the workout as a whole.
What's your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman?
It’s hard to pick one favorite. It’s the people, the atmosphere, the workout structure, the difficulty of the workouts – the list goes on!
What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman?
I would encourage them to give it a try! Every person here is at a different level of strength/ability and all the workouts are scalable. Try not to compare to where others are at – it’s just you versus you working to improve every day that you show up. All you have to do is find your starting point and the coaches will help you build from there.
