Name:  John Ah Kang

Age: 29

Hometown:  Port Louis, Mauritius

How long have you been CrossFitting?  1 year and 1 month

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise?  Squats, Cleans, Push Press, snatches - Basically everything with the bar and heavy weights!  Would say that I enjoy doing pull-ups too now.

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise?  Burpees, running, rowing – Basically everything that involve a lot of body workout and cardio.

What is your previous workout/athletic background?  Have always been lazy since a very young age.  Never been interested in any sports other than a short career as a Dragon boat rower for a few months, where I was able to shield myself behind the team and won a gold medal.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like?  I joined Crossfit Cayman just after the lockdown, I remember doing the foundation class while watching everyone working out at the back– So impressive and intimidating.  The following day, I attended my first WOD, could barely run 800m without some short breaks.  But I did not give up as the coaches/other members are all very helpful and encouraging!

What results have you seen since CrossFitting?  Better eating habits, became fitter, more discipline and confident in myself.  And not to forget, completed my first 10km run non-stop!

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)?  I tend to follow other members; I don’t stop as long as they don’t stop!  Oh, and waste less time drinking water too, as T once said “You don’t need to drink water after 5min workout!!”

What's your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman? There’s always a good atmosphere at Cayman Crossfit – which is no wonder why I find it easier to wake up at 5am now!  Always excited for each WOD.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman?  Honestly joining Crossfit Cayman was one of my best decision ever in 2020 – No regret at all.  Give it a try, it seems very intimidating at first but when you look back, you will be so proud of yourself for all that you’ve achieved.
