Neville Boon

Name: Neville Boon

Age: 34

Hometown: Haywards Heath, UK

How long have you been CrossFitting? Almost 1 year, exclusively at CrossFit Cayman

What is your favorite WOD/Exercise? I tend to enjoy the female-named WODs the most, such as Helen or Jackie.

What is your least favorite WOD/Exercise? Push-ups. I find doing many push-ups whilst maintaining their quality very difficult.

What is your previous workout/athletic background? I have never liked going to a traditional gym. I even struggled to exercise regularly until discovering martial arts. Since then I’ve trained in predominantly Japanese-based Jiu Jitsu - eventually even opening my own club back in the UK. Purpose, progression, routine and community is what changed exercise for me from a chore to a pleasure. And I have found them again all at Crossfit Cayman.

What was your first experience at CrossFit Cayman like? I was introduced to many new movements I had never really done: weight lifting, pull ups, double unders etc. What should have been daunting, I found really wasn’t: the high quality teaching and genuine support of the coaches and the other members made it surprisingly easy to get started.

What results have you seen since CrossFitting? I am certainly a lot fitter, every exercise I can do measurably better: with more weight, faster and for longer. It’s very satisfying t0 see myself improving month after month.

What do you do to get yourself through a tough workout (mental thoughts, tips and tricks, etc.)?

I try to focus on doing each rep well and not to think ahead.

What's your favorite aspect about working out at CrossFit Cayman?

Exercise can be such a deeply personal thing, at CrossFit Cayman we’re given all tools and the encouragement to achieve the absolute most we are able. Everyone is learning and improving. There is always something new to learn, always something you can do better and always others sharing in that journey with you.

What advice do you have for someone thinking about joining CrossFit Cayman?

Do the same sessions every week, get to know the others in your class and after a month or so it’ll be harder not to go!
